In his lengthy introduction the learned author describes the scope and extent of the work, including the various complex terms used for navigation, navigators, sea voyages, boats and ships, ports and coasts, Arabic words used in navigation, adaptation of foreign words from Persian, Hindi, Chinese, Greek, Latin, etc.
The subject proper, viz.
